Field Season Happenings 2023— Lesser Scaup Banding

Catch up with us on what our Field Team has been up to!

Earlier in August, we helped the crew from the Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge and US Fish and Wildlife band Lesser Scaup in Lower Red Rock Lake. This is part of a ongoing study of the Lesser Scaup population. After catching the Scaup and transporting them back to shore, each duck had their weight, sex, and other measurements recorded and then they were fitted with different bands dependent on size of the duck. After that was all recorded, the Scaup were released back into the lake!
